Denise, a severely asthmatic woman, lived in a badly deteriorated apartment the walls of which were covered in mold. There were gaping holes in her kitchen walls and roach infested kitchen cabinets.

When the doctor who was treating her asthma found out about Denise’s housing situation, she referred her to NYLAG. Citing the medical evidence, NYLAG sent the landlord a letter demanding that the conditions be corrected immediately. Within three weeks, the landlord had repaired the walls, replaced the cabinets, repainted the apartment and repaired the broken front door.
