William Friedman
Acting Director, Storm Response

William is the Acting Director of the Storm Response Unit, which provides comprehensive legal services for victims of Superstorm Sandy.  During the storm recovery process, he has advocated for clients across multiple practice areas, including landlord-tenant, foreclosure, consumer, insurance, and benefit programs.  Prior to joining NYLAG, William practiced landlord-tenant and foreclosure defense litigation at Nassau-Suffolk Legal Services. He earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law and his B.A. from Muhlenberg College.

Ziska Anderson
Supervising Attorney, Storm Response

Ziska is a Supervising Attorney in NYLAG’s Storm Response Unit.  She provides counseling and supervises staff of attorneys and paralegals on a wide variety of issues within the NYC Build it Back program.  She also provides direct client representation in foreclosure defense cases.  Before joining NYLAG, Ziska worked as a legal intern with the CUNY School of Law’s Immigrant and Refugee Rights Clinic, volunteered with a Civil Court Judge at New York Civil Court, and has several years of customer service experience with Con Edison.  She received her law degree from CUNY School of Law and her B.A./M.A., magna cum laude, from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Elizabeth Morris
Staff Attorney, Storm Response

Elizabeth is a staff attorney in the Storm Response Unit. She advises and represents clients impacted by Superstorm Sandy, focusing on NY Rising and foreclosure prevention. Prior to joining NYLAG, Elizabeth was an associate at a small law firm where she represented homeowners in foreclosure actions. Elizabeth received a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Carmin Sandoval
Staff Attorney, Storm Response

Carmin Sandoval is a staff attorney in the Storm Response Unit. She advises and represents clients impacted by Superstorm Sandy, focusing on counseling clients within the NYC Build it Back Program. Before joining NYLAG, Carmin worked in private practice at two boutique law firms dealing with an array civil litigation, including bankruptcy, personal injury and matrimonial matters. She also worked as a legal intern with the Chittenden County State’s Attorney, United States Attorney’s Office District of Vermont, and the South Royalton Legal Clinic. Carmin received her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont and her JD from Vermont Law School, magna cum laude. Her public sector experience includes working as an AmeriCorps member with the American Red Cross providing emergency preparedness outreach.

Aaron Scheinwald
Coordinating Attorney, Storm Response Unit

Aaron is a Coordinating Attorney in the Storm Response Unit. He was previously a staff attorney with the Mobile Legal Help Center, and worked alongside the Storm Response Unit with Hurricane Sandy victims.  Traveling across New York City and Long Island, Aaron meets with potential clients and advises them on various storm-related legal issues, including FEMA IHP assistance, homeowner’s and flood insurance claims, and post-Sandy homeowner assistance programs.  Prior to working at NYLAG, Aaron volunteered at MFY Legal Services and interned at the United Nation Development Programme’s Bureau of Development Policy: HIV-AIDS Unit, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s Section 8 Appeals Unit, and Fordham University School of Law’s Interdisciplinary Center for Family and Child Advocacy.  Aaron is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law and the University of California at Berkeley.
