domestic violence clinical center
The DVCC is a one-year clinic that operates on two cycles: summer through the fall and fall through the spring. Evidence is a pre- or co-requisite. Students from any area law school may apply. Participants in the DVCC have the opportunity to:
- Study the integration of law and psychology specific to intimate violence, through guest
lecturers, seminars, simulations, and readings - Learn client interviewing, safety planning, evidence gathering, case preparation, legal writing, trial advocacy, and negotiation skills
- Litigate family offense and visitation cases under a Student Practice Order in New York City Family and Integrated Domestic Violence Courts that allows practice under NYLAG supervision
Academic/clinical credit is determined by the law school.
To apply to the DVCC, second- or third-year law students should send their resume along with a one-page cover letter indicating why they are interested in the clinic.
