Jill Maxwell
Vice President
Jill Maxwell is a movement lawyer dedicated to building power in NYC communities using strategies that include direct services, impact litigation, and advocacy. Jill started her career as a staff attorney at NYLAG and rejoined as a Vice President in 2023. As a VP, Jill supports NYLAG’s legal services programs and contributes to strategic planning and management as a member of the executive team.
Before rejoining NYLAG, Jill was Deputy Counsel at CUNY’s John Jay College. She supported the College’s mission to ensure the success of its majority-BIPOC student body, many of whom are NYC public school graduates, immigrants, and first-generation college students, by providing advice and representation on a range of legal issues and matters.
From 2014-2019, Jill collaborated with community-based organizations and labor advocates in implementing and enforcing NYC’s Paid Sick and Safe Leave and Fair Workweek Laws, among other cutting-edge workers’ rights protections enacted during that time. Jill clerked for judges on the US Courts for the EDNY and Third Circuit.
