Director, Public Benefits Unit
Maria Hunter leads the Public Benefits Unit (PBU), which works to ensure that families, children, and the elderly experiencing poverty, and those with disabilities, veterans, and other vulnerable populations, have access to the public benefits to which they are entitled, including public assistance, veterans’ benefits, SNAP benefits, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security Disability Insurance, and Supplemental Security Income. PBU also provides life planning assistance in order to help clients access and maintain these critical benefits in the future. Maria was previously the supervising attorney for the Elder Law Practice where she led a team that represented senior clients on issues regarding access to public benefits, advance planning, and elder abuse.
