Director, Employment Law Project
Mel supervises a team of lawyers and paralegals representing low wage workers across New York dealing with wage theft, discrimination, harassment and other labor issues, through litigation in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, policy advocacy and community-based partnerships including public education and organizing support. Mel is committed to law and organizing methods of legal advocacy aimed at empowering our communities. Prior to joining NYLAG, Mel worked as an associate at Lichten and Liss-Riordan, bringing class and impact litigation on behalf of low wage and immigrant workers. Before that, Mel worked as an Equal Justice Works fellow at Make the Road New York, with a project focused on supporting NYC delivery workers. Mel speaks Spanish.
