NYLAG on the Election of Donald Trump

NEW YORK, NY – The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump securing a second term as President of the United States:

“We knew that no matter who won this presidential election, the communities most impacted by systemic injustice and inequity would still need meaningful access to free civil legal services to assert their rights and maintain their dignity. At this juncture, we know this is even more critical.

“We have persevered under a Trump Administration before, and whatever lies ahead, we will do it again, building on the infrastructure and experience we and our partner organizations developed after 2016. Because of the uncertainty to come, we implore New York City and State to include legal and human service providers as well as impacted communities in planning for the coming months and years, and to significantly increase flexible funding to providers so that we can respond to rapidly changing policies impacting our clients’ lives.”
