NYLAG has joined with a number of other legal services organizations in filing an amicus brief in support of two class action law suits seeking preliminary injunction to enjoin the rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). As organizations that represent DACA-eligible individuals we have specialized knowledge of and experience with the complexities of the immigration system—a system that provides no other viable option for young DACA recipients to avoid deportation. Because most DACA recipients are not eligible for immigration relief, they are at risk of losing countless essential benefits once their status expires, including their jobs, health insurance, and access to education. The rescission of DACA has intensified the fear felt by immigrants since the introduction of enhanced enforcement policies and tactics earlier this year. This fear endangers public health and safety.
