STATEMENT: NYLAG Responds to CityFHEPS Expansion Setback

NEW YORK, NY — The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) issued the following statement after the New York City Council’s efforts to expand CityFHEPS housing vouchers encountered another setback:

“With ever increasing housing costs in this city, New Yorkers already facing the burdens of systemic inequities and poverty need solutions that keep a roof over their head. The New York City Council’s legislation expanding CityFHEPS voucher eligibility aims to help achieve this, but with yet another obstacle to prevent implementation, that relief remains out of reach for too many who need it – relief that can be the difference between stability and eviction.

“Housing is vital to safety, stability, dignity, opportunity, and health care, and for those already struggling, it’s all the more crucial. We remain committed to supporting policies that ensure housing affordability and stability for every New Yorker.”
