Communities of color are disproportionately impacted by the health and economic devastation caused by COVID-19 and could face homelessness if we do not have proper rent and housing relief. Below is an excerpt from our memorandum of support:
“A serious and unprecedented emergency exists in the state of New York because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The scope of this emergency is almost impossible to assess, which necessitates that the State respond forcefully to the crisis in order to minimize what is certain to be catastrophic damage to the populace’s health, safety, and social and economic well-being. Without decisive action by the Legislature and Governor, New York is likely to see a wave of evictions that will eclipse by many orders of magnitude any increases in displacement in the State’s history.”
